Local processing on your Windows PC
DeskRecall saves and restores window layouts. The portable pilot build uses no network services. The Store build queries its licence through the Windows Store API; Microsoft Store may communicate with Microsoft. There is no custom licensing server. DeskRecall has no user accounts, cloud synchronisation, advertising or usage analytics. It does not transmit window or profile data to Karré IT Consulting. We cannot access this local data.
Stored information includes monitor configurations with device identifiers, resolution, positions and primary display; application and process identifiers, executable paths, window classes and, where applicable, window titles; window positions, sizes and states, profiles, rules, exclusions and settings. Titles and paths may contain personal information. Child-window recognition uses structural characteristics; it does not read email or chat contents. Child-window templates do not store titles, although the local selection view may display existing window titles.
Storage and retention
The main file is %LOCALAPPDATA%\DeskRecall\layouts.json. It can contain up to 20 previous profile states. Backup and migration copies are stored in Backups; invalid files may remain as layouts.invalid-*.json. JSON files you export are saved to the location you choose and may also contain personal paths.
Debug and Release builds write local logs in Logs. Release records session, licence, activation, error and hang events. Detailed diagnostics can be enabled for 30 minutes and are always enabled in Debug. Raw logs contain technical events, profile identifiers and exception stack traces, potentially including local paths. Up to five rotating files per session are retained; files older than seven days are removed on subsequent writes.
The optional support ZIP removes window titles, paths, profile contents and exception text. It contains technical events, timestamps, session and process identifiers, version, operating system and architecture. No automatic upload occurs. Remove the log folder and exported ZIPs to delete these data.
Deletion and control
You control which windows and profiles are saved. For complete removal, close DeskRecall and delete its main file, backups, invalid files and any logs in the local DeskRecall directory. Separately delete exported files and any backups you created. Uninstalling alone may not remove these files.
Local storage serves the layout functions you request. In a business deployment, the organisation using the software determines the purposes, legal basis and retention for data it processes.
Your rights
Where we process your personal data, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and, where the statutory conditions apply, data portability. You may withdraw consent at any time with future effect. Where processing is based on legitimate interests, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation. You may complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country of your habitual residence, place of work or the alleged infringement. For our establishment, the competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg.

Support and scope
If you contact us voluntarily, we process your contact details and the information you supply to respond to your request. Contract-related enquiries are handled under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; other enquiries under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on our interest in answering enquiries and resolving technical issues. Information is retained only while needed to handle the matter or meet applicable legal obligations. Avoid including other people’s data unless necessary.
This notice describes the app. Visiting this website, downloading the app from a store and using the operating system may involve separate processing by the respective providers. The app does not use automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects.
